Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a sound therapy

Sound Healing is a holistic practice that taps into the therapeutic power of sound waves to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It is the application of sound waves at different frequencies, applied to or around a person's body, for attuning, aligning, releasing, calming and overall healing. Through instruments like tuning forks, singing bowls, and even the human voice, sound therapy helps to balance the body, mind, and spirit.

Whether you're seeking relaxation, emotional release, or enhanced mental clarity, sound therapy offers a powerful, natural way to support your health.

Q: What is a sound bath?

In a sound bath, you hear and feel a symphony of tones from singing bowls, tuning forks, bells and other overtone emitting instruments. The experience is often called a sound bath because it literally feels like you are being bathed in sound. It is a deep, somatic listening experience that offers people a gentle way to connect to their bodies and de-stress their nervous systems.

In my sound baths, multiple crystal singing bowls are played in a therapeutic manner in order to relax the body, calm the mind, and ignite inner awareness. Participants are laying down for the experience with their eyes closed.

The tones and frequencies that are used within a sound bath activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for our rest and digestion functions and allow our minds and bodies to relax. A sound bath uses certain frequencies and tones that can assist overall well-being.

This is an unforgettable sound experience for those who seek deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and introspection. My typical Sound Baths are 60-minute sonic healing sessions that consist of:

    • Welcome: a brief introduction of sound healing
    • Discussing Intentions: I encourage you to privately set a personal intention for the session, whether it's seeking relaxation, healing, or insight.
    • Grounding: a guided breathing meditation exercise
    • Sound Therapy: 35-40 minutes of quartz crystal singing bowls played live with other percussion instruments, such as Quartz Crystal and Himalayan Singing Bowls, Kenari Chimes, Tibetan Tingsha Cymbals, Bamboo Wind Chimes, Kalimba and the Ocean Drum
    • Closing: space allowed at the end of the vibrational sound therapy meditation session to just relax to ambient music until you are ready to move.
    • End of Session: Participants gently get up from their lying position. Somatic shaking is advised but optional. It offers numerous benefits after a sound healing session. It helps to release stored tension, facilitate emotional release, enhance energetic alignment, promote relaxation and stress reduction. Journaling is encouraged. Drink plenty of water.

Q: Does the Sound Bath involve getting in water?

No, the "bath" in "sound bath" refers to being immersed in sound waves and vibrations, not water. You typically lie down comfortably on a mat, often with blankets and pillows, and a practitioner plays various instruments like gongs, singing bowls, chimes, and tuning forks. The sounds "wash over" you, promoting relaxation and a meditative state.

Q: Why attend a sound bath

Sound baths are a meditative practice involving the use of resonant music. This creates an immersive sound that fills the room and the body, aiming to help people relax and let go of stress, anxiety, or other worries and concerns. People report feeling deeply relaxed after sound baths, which may have health benefits. I believe by reducing our stress and moving the sympathetic nervous system into the parasympathetic system, our bodies create an environment to self-heal.

Q: Benefits of Sound Baths And Healing with Crystal Singing Bowl

Sound baths help to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the body's natural counterbalance to stress. Here's the science behind the relaxation:

The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for the body's rest and digest functions, which sound baths help to stimulate.

As the body is exposed to the therapeutic sounds, there may be a shift from a state of alertness to one of relaxation, signaling the parasympathetic nervous system to engage.

This can result in a decrease in heart rate, a lowering of blood pressure, and a deep sense of calm throughout the body.

Participants in sound baths often report profound impacts on their well-being, spanning psychological to physiological realms. These sessions, utilizing Crystal Healing bowls and/or Tibetan Crystal Singing Bowls, are known for stress reduction, mental clarity enhancement, emotional release, and sleep improvement. The sound waves from these bowls are thought to synchronize brain wave frequencies, fostering deep relaxation and a tranquil mind, which may ease anxiety, manage stress, and support a balanced mood. Additionally, the harmonious resonance of these bowls could promote a mental reset, sharpening focus and sparking creativity.

According to recent studies (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5871151/) some conditions believed to benefit from sound therapy include:

    • Stress Reduction:
o The soothing tones help calm the nervous system, significantly lowering stress levels.
o The gentle sound waves can act as a form of "sonic massage," reducing the production of stress hormones.

    • Enhanced Mental Clarity:
o The clear, pure sounds can facilitate a mental environment where thoughts are more organized and less chaotic.
o It's common for participants to report feeling mentally refreshed and able to think more lucidly post-session.

    • Emotional Release:
o Sound baths can serve as a safe space for releasing pent-up emotions, often leading to cathartic experiences.
o The vibrational frequencies can help unlock emotional blockages, fostering a sense of emotional freedom.

    • Sleep Improvement:
o The relaxing effects of sound baths can lead to better sleep quality, helping with insomnia and other sleep disorders.
o The resonant sounds can tune the brain to delta waves, which are associated with deep, restorative sleep.

    • Synchronization of Brain Waves:
o The frequencies emitted by the singing bowls are said to synchronize with brain wave frequencies, promoting deeper states of meditation.
o This synchronization can induce a trance-like state where healing and rejuvenation are optimized.

    • Deep Relaxation:
o Participants often experience a profound level of relaxation that is both physical and mental, contributing to overall wellness.
o This deep relaxation can also aid in lowering blood pressure and improving heart rate variability.

    • Anxiety Management:
o The immersive experience can help individuals detach from anxious thoughts, offering immediate relief.
o The practice can also build resilience over time, helping to reduce overall anxiety levels.

    • Balanced Mood:
o The calming effects of the sound bath can help balance mood swings and aid in the management of conditions like depression.
o It fosters a sense of inner peace that can last well beyond the session itself.

    • Mental Reset:
o Just like rebooting a computer, a sound bath can provide a mental reset, clearing the mind of clutter and restoring cognitive functions.
o This reset can lead to improved attention span and a refreshed perspective on day-to-day challenges.

    • Sharpened Focus and Creativity:
o The meditative state achieved during a sound bath can open up the mind to new ideas, enhancing creativity.
o Many report a heightened ability to concentrate on creative tasks after participating in a sound bath.

    • Enhanced Meditation Practice:
o For those who meditate, sound baths can deepen the meditative experience, making it easier to enter a state of deep mindfulness.
o The sounds serve as a focal point, assisting even those new to meditation in maintaining focus.

Q: What are sound therapy contraindications?

While sound baths are generally safe for most people, there are a few precautions and contraindications to be aware of. Singing bowls should be completely avoided if you have any of the following:

    • If you are intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.
    • Have carotid stenosis, a cardiac pacemaker, artificial heart valves, cardiac arrhythmias, a stent, a shunt, epilepsy or seizures.
    • Have a deep brain stimulation device, thrombosis, Parkinson's disease, metal implants, polyneuropathy, orhemiparesis.

A sound bath's main impact often involves a profound emotional experience rather than physical harm. Generalized stress and anxiety or depression to not exclude you from attending. You should consult your doctor before joining a sound bath if you have any of the following:

    • Have a hearing aid you may find sound baths uncomfortable.
    • Any neurological diseases * Are being treated for cancer * Meniere's disease
    • Get noise-triggered migraines * Have a serious mental health issue * Use an insulin pump * Are undergoing dialysis
    • Have any unmanaged mental health issues such as PTSD, personality disorder or schizophrenia.
    • Are post-surgery, before suture removal, before full healing and closing of surgical scars.
    • Pregnancy: While generally considered safe, this ensures it aligns with your individual needs and the health of your pregnancy.
    • A sound bath meditation may bring up uncomfortable thoughts and emotions that have been stored in the subconscious, especially for those who have experienced past trauma, a recent crisis, or are experiencing grief.

Q: Sound Bath Etiquette

To ensure everyone has a peaceful session, it's important to: Arrive 15 minutes early to avoid disruptions. Turn off your phone and any other potential sources of noise. Respect the silence during the session to allow everyone, including yourself, to fully immerse in the experience.

Q: What can I expect?

People often experience a sense of relaxation for days after a sound bath, reporting tension and pain relief as well as improved cognition, sleep and mood. It is peaceful yet powerful for mind and body.

Throughout the session, your nervous system releases tension, your brain waves naturally slow and you shift into a relaxed, lucid, dreamlike state of being.

More than anything, a restorative sound bath is an opportunity to let yourself slow down, rest and do nothing. Simply tune into the sounds around you and give yourself permission to just be there in the moment.

Everyone during a sound healing session responds differently. Some common reactions are:

    • Heavy sighing
    • Crying
    • Laughing
    • Twitching (legs, arms, head, feet, shoulders, etc.)
    • Some may sleep right through it.
    • Some may have to use the bathroom several times through the session as they release, and the toxins get filtered through the lymphatic system.
    • Some will see colors (the chakras and organs as they align, vibrate and our brain converts that vibration into light and color)
    • Some people may burp or pass gas.
    • Emotional triggers arise.
    • Energetic releases that feel like electrical spikes or jolts
    • Tightness in their chest, shoulders, back or torso
    • Seeing angels, guides, or ancestors
    • Fall asleep.
    • Feel energy tingling in their limbs, particularly their hands and feet.
    • Some people shiver as the Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) of their cells (energy of each cell) shifts from a lower energy frequency to their attuned new natural frequency. When the lower energy starts to move and leave the body, it is very common for people to get cold and shivery.
    • Some people may not show any signs of releasing, especially if they have controlling tendencies or fear of judgment. These people tend to release in a very controlled manner.

Q: How do I contact you with questions?

Most questions about my services can be answered on the website. If you read through all of the information and still have questions please contact call or email me.

Q: What do you do in a Sound Bath?

To get the most out of sound baths, I suggest people relax in a comfortable position (laying on the floor or a recliner, eye mask on). Then they simply listen to the sounds and stay present with what is felt during the experience. As you settle into the sound bath, deepen your experience by focusing on your breath. Taking slow, deep breaths can enhance relaxation and help you connect more deeply with the sounds. If your mind begins to wander, gently guide your focus back to the sounds and your breathing.

Q: Can I take a Sound Bath if I am pregnant?

I recommend pregnant women consult their physician prior to attending a sound bath event with us. Once physicians clearance is obtained, pregnant women are welcome at our sound bath events. Bring an additional pillow or two so you can lay comfortable on your side (laying on the back is not recommended after the first trimester).

Q: What should I wear for the Sound Bath?

I suggest wearing comfortable clothes, and dressing in layers in case you get hot or cold.

Q: What do I bring to a Sound Bath?

Bring a mat, bolster, pillow, and eye mask if desired. Dress in layers in case you get hot/cold. You may bring a small throw or personal size blanket if desired. For comfort it is recommend using a bolster under your knees and neck.

Q: Session - Aftercare

Each person will respond to the sound therapy in individual ways. For most people, they will feel wonderful after a session, but for some, they may experience what I call a healing response. This process of detoxification can look like feeling fatigued, having sore muscles, feeling waves of emotion, headaches, runny nose, sore throat, upset stomach or having flu like symptoms. These things may last from a few hours to a few days.

Remember that detoxing is the process of moving out what is no longer a vibrational match to your new frequency. Know that this is a good thing. Detoxing is the body's natural way of releasing unwanted toxins and shifting what needs to be shifted in order to heal and transform. If you do experience a detox, rest assured in a short amount of time you will feel better with a new sense of balance and harmony.

It is recommended that you drink plenty of water after a session to keep energy moving through your body. And pay close attention to your needs during this time, take a salt bath, go for a walk in nature and journal. Remember that there is a lot happening within after you receive a session. Nurture yourself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Q: How often sould I come in for a session?

The benefits of sound baths are cumulative and regular sessions are highly recommended in order to receive the most benefit. If it is your first time receiving this type of work, 4 sessions about two weeks apart is highly recommended. After that, the suggested frequency of sessions will vary depending on your individual needs. A general recommendation is 1 – 2 sessions per month. If you are going through something challenging, whether mental, emotional or physical, a weekly session is suggested during that time.

Q: Can I come in if I am late for an event?

No, I start exactly on time for every event. Late arrivals would be extremely disruptive to people inside. Arrival time is 15 minutes before the event begins. Please DO NOT KNOCK on the door if you are late.

Q: I didn't make it on time for my event, what are my options?

I am sorry you didn't make it to the event you had tickets for! Due to the limited amount of tickets I have available at each event I do not offer refunds or "make ups" for late arrivals or missed events.

Q: Do we have to sign up in advance, or can we just show up at the door?

I require advanced registration for all of our events unless otherwise publicized.

Q: I am not able to make it to the event I signed up for, can I exchange my ticket for another date?

Your ticket is valid only for the date and time purchased. You are welcome to give your ticket to another person if you cannot make the event you have a ticket for. I do not offer refunds or transfers to another date. You will need to inform me of the person taking your place by sending me an email with the person's name and their contact information. The person taking your place will need to sign a paper waiver at the door so make sure they arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Q: I gave my ticket to someone else. Can they just show up or do they need to do something?

If you give your ticket to someone else please contact me with the name and email of the person taking your place. They will need to sign a paper waiver at the door so make sure they arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Q: Is there a minimum age requirement for events or trainings?

Yes, most events are a minimum age requirement of 18 years. I will host separate events that include children or are specifically designed for children only and require parental permission and supervision to attend.

Q: Do I have to lay on the floor during the sound bath? I have a hard time getting up or down to the floor.

If you are not able to get down and up from the floor without assistance please contact me before you purchase tickets so I can go over your options.

Q: Can I bring my dog(s)?

Pets are not allowed. Please do not bring your pet. California law enables people to bring their trained and certified service or psychiatric service animals. All other animals are prohibited, including emotional support animals. It is not safe to leave your pet in your vehicle during the Sound Bath, due to the temperatures in our area most of the year. Please let us know in advance if you are bringing a certified service animal so I can make arrangements for you and your dog's comfort during the public Sound Bath. Please be aware that the sound levels in the Sound chamber may make your dog very uncomfortable. If your service dog is disruptive, you will be asked to remove it from the building.
